South Carolina players arrestedPosted: Wednesday April 2, 2008 2:19PM; Updated: Wednesday April 2, 2008 2:19PM COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Two South Carolina women's basketball players have been arrested on possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and financial card theft charges. Authorities say freshmen Jasmine Payne and Ashlie Billingslea were taken into custody Tuesday after police searched a dorm room. South Carolina athletics spokesman Steve Fink told WLTX-TV that Payne and Billingslea have been suspended from the team per university policy. Coach Susan Walvius refused to talk to The (Columbia) State about the arrests. Both women remained in jail Tuesday night and it wasn't clear if they have attorneys. Payne started in three games this season averaging 2.6 points and 2.1 rebounds. Billingslea played in 14 games, averaging 1.8 points and 1.4 rebounds. Copyright 2008 Associated Press.
