Quiana Grant's Q&A
The one thing I'm absolutely obsessed with lately is ...
Reality TV. It's kind of embarrassing, but I'm obsessed with America's Next Top Model, American Idol, Celebrity Fit Club. I'm obsessed with all of them. If I have a flight or anything like that, I'll TiVo them. American Idol is the one I cannot miss! If I miss it, I'll watch it as soon as I can when I get back home.
On a quiet, rainy day I usually ...
Clean my house. I'm obsessed with cleaning when it's raining. It's really weird. I'll sleep late, until like 2 o'clock, then I'll get up, make breakfast and start cleaning. I'll clean for hours. I don't cook, so I'll eat something easy and fast, like toasting a bagel, or Fruity Pebbles, or going to McDonald's and getting the hot cakes with sausage.
If I were giving a tour of my home, the one place I wouldn't show anyone is ...
My closet because when people come over you throw everything in your closet.
The sexiest thing a man has ever done for me is ...
I was with a guy and he was not making a lot of money, but he wanted to give me a tennis bracelet for Christmas. That Christmas, he cut a picture of it out of a magazine and the following Christmas he gave it to me. That Christmas, he went to the jewelry store, got a box, put paper in it, and gave it to me. When I saw the box I was like, "Oh my God!" but then I opened it and was like, "OK ...", but then he got it the next Christmas, so that was kind of sweet.
And the sexiest thing I've ever done for a man is ...
Oooh ... let me see. For my ex-boyfriend's birthday he said he just wanted to spend the day with me, so I planned a whole day out. We went on a cruise for the day because he had never been on a boat. It was the Spirit of Norfolk, one of those dinner cruises, so we did that. We just walked around and he was very happy. He had never been on a boat before. I always get guys like that, who have never been anywhere.
I feel a secret connection with ...
Chris Webber because he is mysterious to me. I love the fact that you never hear anything about him anywhere. Even when he was dating Tyra Banks, you didn't hear anything about him. It's the unknown. I remember living in D.C., and the Kings came to play the Wizards, and all the ladies were in the hairdresser getting their hair done and I'm like, "What's going on?" and they told me, "Chris Webber's coming to town, girl!" That was kind of funny, but he's actually, um, yeah, he's pretty great. I was supposed to go to a game when he was playing for Philly, but then he got traded and I thought, nevermind I just wanted to see him.
In a past life I was ...
I'm a modern day girl. I'm very wise, but I think this is my first life, I don't think I had a past life.
If I didn't have any responsibilities tomorrow morning, I would spend tonight ...
I would spend tonight going home to Virginia to see my mom. She cannot wait to celebrate with me because of this whole Sports Illustrated thing. I live here in New York, but I still call Virginia home. It will always be home.
If I didn't have any responsibilities for a week, I would go to ...
I would go to Australia. That's my dream place to go. I always say, "I can take myself, I can go," but it has to be a special time to go. I would definitely go if I didn't have anything to do for a week. I've never been there. It's the only place in the world where I want to go that I haven't been to. I just want to take some sand or something. I see the pictures and it's so beautiful! I want to do the tours and see everything and do everything.
If you asked my friends about me, the first thing they would tell you is ...
That I'm a comedian. I'm always making people laugh, I'm a goofball for real. That's the first thing. I'm a goof-off. I'm just a very real person and I tell it like it is. Life is funny, so you have to laugh.
The last thing I really splurged on was ...
The ballerina shoes that I have on right now. They have all these crystals in them, so when I'm walking, especially when I'm walking in Harlem where I'm living right now, people are like, "Girl, you're walking on diamonds!" In the light it looks like diamonds. I'm loving 'em.
If I were going to a costume party tonight, I would dress as ...
New York! New York from I Love New York. I would be totally drag like her. It was my No. 1 show, but it's not on anymore.
When I get dressed to go to the grocery store, my clothing inspiration is ...
I don't really go grocery shopping, I do a lot of deli shopping. But for my Fruity Pebbles and milk, I'm loving those Victoria's Secret sweatpants that come to your knees, a tank top and flip flops. That's me. Very casual.
When I get dressed up for a party, my clothing inspiration is ...
Skinny jeans, a wife-beater, and some sexy heels, so I can dance. Sometimes, with a dress if you want to get up on a table and dance, you can't. I still want to be classy but I have to dance!
One thing I do only when I'm home completely alone is ...
I pray a lot when I'm alone. I read my Bible and do those personal, quiet things. I thank God for my life.
The one thing I hate for people to know about me is that I ...
I'm a procrastinator and I hate that, but I work better under pressure. If I start a project early as opposed to the night before, I won't do as well.
If I had to spend $1 million right now, I would ...
Buy this condo in Virginia that I want so bad. They are building these new condos on the beach.
If I had to spend $10 right now, I would ...
Right now I'm hungry so I would get a Big Mac and some fries.
The sexiest I've ever felt was ...
My mom had an eye disease called Chorioretinitis and she couldn't really see my face clearly until I was 13. The first time I felt beautiful and sexy was when she was able to see me and she said, "Oh my God, Quiana, you're beautiful!" I never realized that she couldn't really see me until that moment. That's when I started to really grow into myself. It's awesome.
The one place I've seen that I'll never forget is ...
Grenada, I was there last fall. I wouldn't say it's the most beautiful place I've ever been, but the people were the most beautiful and it made the place the most amazing place I'd ever been in my life. I've also shot in the Bahamas, which is really great. I love all those beach destinations and all those islands there.
I won't date a man if he ...
If he talks about himself too much. I hate that! It's like, 'Please come on, honey. It's not about you. Not at all.'
My favorite time to be naked is ...
When I'm cleaning. I really like it; I'm very comfortable with myself in that way.
When it comes to nudity, most people don't know that I ...
I'm not gonna go outside nude, but I'm comfortable around my house nude.
When I open my eyes in the morning, the very first thing on my mind is ...
Five more minutes of sleep. That's pretty much all I think about when I open my eyes.
My favorite thing to do in the comfort of my own room is ...
I don't spend a lot of time in my room. Once I get up and make my bed, I'm out of there. But I read a lot in my room. Right now I'm reading a book called The Value in the Valley. It's about black women and getting through valleys and it's about comfort in knowing that you're going to come out of it.
An athlete I have a secret crush on is ...
Chris Webber. He's the man.
How about an entertainer?
The guy from that movie Step Up, Channing Tatum, he looks really good. Mmm, he's sexy and he can dance.
And name one surprise crush who most people wouldn't find particularly attractive.
I like ministers. You'd be surprised that I'm in love with ministers. The last guy I was dating was a minister and it was really great, actually.
If I could be anything but a model, I would be ...
A pediatrician. In high school I took CNA classes, so that was part of my clinicals, to work in pediatrics, and I loved it. If the path of modeling had never happened, I definitely would have been a pediatrician. But now that it's happening, I'm more into talking to girls and being an inspiration to them. I don't think I'll ever go to school to be a pediatrician because it's no longer my passion.
If I could be anywhere else in the world right now, I would be ...
In Australia. I'd want to go to Sydney. It seems like the main place to go. I've done a lot of research on what to do there, so when I go I know exactly what to do. I'd probably fly around once I got there. The first thing I would do when I got there would be to take a bath and then I want to see the kangaroos!
In a group of people, I'm always the first to ...
Say something funny. I'm always the first to make people laugh. I'll usually do something funny or crazy and make people laugh.
The worst lie I ever told was ...
My dad had this old Escort when we were little, and I wrote on the back of his seat with a pen and when he asked which one of us had done it, me or my younger brother, and I swore I didn't do it and my younger brother ended up getting the whooping for it. It was really bad. He was like, 'Why did you lie?' and I told him, 'I can't take any more whoopings!'
To impress a cute man at a bar, I would ...
You know what? I'm very shy and I never go up to a guy. If he comes up to me, then that's what it is. I'm over cute now, I'm beyond cute ... if it's meant to be, then it's gonna happen. If not, then I'm glad I didn't meet him because I don't need anymore heartbreak. I don't do anything to impress anybody. Most guys who are cute, know they're cute and I don't like that.
The last time I saw a woman and thought "I wish I looked like her" was ...
I don't really wish I looked like anyone. I'm comfortable with myself. I am inspired by women, though.
My personal hero is ...
My dad. When my mom was legally blind, he pulled together for the family and continued to work. We never had to move or anything to make adjustments financially. Even when he saw that modeling was a passion of mine, he still was able to work, pay bills, and push me to do what I always wanted to do. He really inspired me to make the sacrifices you need to make to get anywhere you need to be. Yeah, definitely my dad.
Where's your hometown?
Newport News, Va.
Do you have any sort of special connection with your hometown?
It's really the people. I'm definitely a people person. The people in my hometown are really down-to-earth people. Also, my family is there and if they moved anywhere, I'm sure the people wouldn't matter and I'd go wherever they go. It's really my family; I'm so connected to them. I tell my mom all the time, 'It's time for you to cut the umbilical cord.' We still haven't; we're still so connected.
Where's the one place you have to go when you're in your hometown?
We have to go to Cracker Barrel, a restaurant. The people know us there because we're always there eating breakfast at like 11 o'clock at night. The funny thing is, we all share; my mom, my dad, and I will share the one plate because we just want to be there, we just want to be there in Cracker Barrel. We've always gone there.
How do you feel about environmental issues such as global warming or pollution?
I think that we need to do everything we can and we need to stop ignoring it. It's right in our faces and no one wants to step up and do anything about it. People need to take it more seriously and do what you can do on your part, even if it's educating other people about it. A lot of people in my hometown, it's not like they're uneducated, but they don't really know. They'll talk about it what's going on, but not do anything about it. I was always raised believing that if you can't do a lot, at least do something, anything. Just to find out information about it and talk to people who can make a difference. Everybody should be doing something.
